about

Winchester Warm craft rich and rewarding songs, not just with sound, but with open-heart narratives and melodies that offset melancholy with anthemic arcs.” 8/10 - Montreal Mirror

"Sounding as though a mix of the Scud Mountain Boys and Neil Young influences them, these beautiful indie-folk-rock tracks cunningly seep into your sub-conscious" -Musicnerd.ca

Winchester Warm play sometimes tender, sometimes raucous indie-folk, flush with soaring vocal harmonies, offbeat percussive threads and shimmering guitar flourishes. What began as a powerful duo consisting of Jonathan Pearce and Matthew Godin has since grown in membership and also in sound, at times echoing the somber folk stylings of M. Ward and at others, the jaunty vocal-driven indie-pop of Pinback.

Pearce and Godin released their debut album, “Sky One Room,” in late 2010. The album garnered very positive reviews from numerous publications such as the Montreal Mirror, the Ottawa Citizen and Toronto’s Now Magazine. The duo toured extensively in support of their debut album, embarking on a quintessentially Canadian two-week tour of the country’s east coast in bone chilling January 2011.

In late 2012 guitarist Matthew Corbiere joined the group full-time, and with the addition of bassist Michael Zorn their sound edged ever closer to the jangly-pop of Pearce and Godin’s critical-acclaimed former band Poorfolk.

The group recorded the new album (“Belle Attente”) throughout 2013 in various locales in Ottawa with local sonic prince Jarrett Bartlett. (The Acorn, Andrew Vincent, The Flaps)

The songs on “Belle Attente” range from the upbeat, off-kilter pop of the title track to the moody, slow burning folk of “like hell,” which culminates in a triumphant barroom chant. Like the band’s first album, the songs are at times heavy and melancholic while at other times, poignant and anthemic.

“Belle Attente,” will officially be released on June 3rd 2014 with an album launch show at St. Albans Church in Ottawa on June 6, 2014.
